The final post in the 3 part serious of New York Fashion Week recaps. You can find part 1 here, and part 2 here.

Jenny Packham

Highlights included dramatic crystal-embellished long-sleeve gowns, a black fitted knee-length dress with one-sided engineered embroidery, and a sparkling red column. WWD

I do love a good evening gown and Jenny Packham didn’t dissapoint. Now I just need some place fancy to go in order to get my hands on once of these dresses.

J.Crew

After last season’s show, Tom Mora, J. Crew’s head of women’s design, took a big vacation and returned to his fall drawing board. “What to do? What to do?” he wondered. Luckily, he had been in Marrakech, where he observed the city’s colors, textures and stylistic mix of djellaba worn under tailored blazers. WWD

I was never a huge fan of J. Crew until recently. Call it my grown-up style if you wish.  Some things seem so bland and boring but there were a few stand out pieces from this collection that I must have in my closet. Above all else, they are wearable.

Victoria by Victoria Beckham

Beckham tossed out her familiar feminine look for a decidedly more boyish feel, and to great results. WWD

This collection was for more wearable than her first show earlier in the week. There was something about the dark tones, wool vests and prints that just made it feel like fall. And actually got me excited about this cold weather we are still having.

Rachel Zoe

— “English equestrian and totally Seventies” —…he nailed the look she knows best, working traditional tailoring, skinny riding pants and leather pants with cool double-buckle details at the cuff into perfectly polished compositions. WWD

Another personal favorite. I might be biased because I like Rachel Zoe (as if I know her personally) and I’m rooting for her after becoming a fan of her show. I’ve always loved how she rocks bell bottoms even when they aren’t on trend. I wish THAT would be a trend most everyone would get behind again because I love a good bell bottomed-wide leg pant. The looks were very equestrian (reminding me of Julia’s HSWI posts) and the makeup looks were that of what you would find on Rachel herself – simple with a bold lip.

Ralph Lauren

Lauren’s day looks drew heavily from naval motifs, particularly an array of jaunty outerwear, from snappy peacoats to braid-trimmed officer’s fare. WWD

I can’t say I’m ever a big fan of Ralph Lauren. Sure it’s the classic, preppy girl look but nothing ever wows me except some red carpet moments. This collection I saw all over tumblr and was hooked. They kept the simple Ralph Lauren pretty makeup face look and didn’t over do it. Dare I say this is in the top 5 of my favorites? Yes, it would be true.

Marc Jacobs

In fact, this was perhaps the most overtly glamorous collection Jacobs has ever done, rendered with a moody gentility that transported it far beyond the banal, his invocation of “familiarity” notwithstanding. WWD

Let’s not just talk about the clothes but the show itself. It was literally a show. I wasn’t overly in love with any of the looks but I could watch the show in fast foward speed for the great performance.

One comment on “NYFW Fall/Winter 2013 Recap Part 3

  1. We have the same exact feelings on J.Crew, didn’t get into them until I saw that they were no longer just for young Moms (I always associated J.Crew with my prepster Mom). And that floral skirt in the collection is beautiful.
